Ethos

‘Every good design begins with an even better story’ Our work always begins with getting to know you.

It is a privilege to be invited into people’s lives and to be asked to create spaces that reflect who they are. Your aspirations, budget and timescales matter to us and we are here to guide you through the journey from beginning to end. Our approach is both creative and collaborative. We work closely with our clients, the wider design team and contractors to create buildings and places that people love to spend time in.

Whether you are extending for a growing family, downsizing to enjoy retirement, building your dream home, starting a new venture or creating space simply for love, be it a love of design or something more personal, we listen carefully to your vision. Our aim is to understand what matters most to you and to deliver a building that is better than you thought you could have.

A-JOY strive to create environmentally conscious buildings by taking a holistic approach to design and considering sustainability at the beginning of a project. This can include a number of factors such as responsiveness, reuse, energy efficiency, operational systems and material choices.

New Builds

At the heart of our new build designs is a deep understanding of the site and context within which the building will sit. We love creating beautiful, contemporary, sustainable buildings that harness their surroundings, are healthy for you and the environment and most importantly achieve your aspirations for how you would like to live.

We work alongside trusted specialists including lighting designers, renewable energy consultants and experts in smart home technology, all of which can be incorporated into your designs where required.

We have also been asked to design bespoke joinery and one-off pieces of furniture for clients. We have done this in house and also worked closely with craftspeople to create unique pieces for your home.

Conversions

We are passionate about our built heritage and always aim to breathe new life into old structures whilst preserving their story and character. We have extensive experience with buildings that are listed or sited in conservation areas and enjoy creatively converting and adapting them to reimagine new spaces. There are an abundance of beautiful old buildings in Scotland that have fallen into disrepair and are at risk of deteriorating further. Often the most rewarding projects are those that find a new use for these buildings, transforming them into vibrant spaces for people to enjoy.

Extensions / Renovations

Domestic extensions are often about exploring different means of connecting houses with their gardens, breaking down the barrier between inside and out, maximising natural daylight, extending for a growing family, or simply adapting a home to work better for modern day living. We love getting to know people and helping them to transform and enhance the way they use their homes.
